I am going to put “learn how to write an essay” on my list for 2012 or better yet “write more essays until it doesn’t seem so scary.” I envy people who can write essays…when I sit and face my computer screen and start to type, I feel almost paralyzed by what I think an essay should include. Where do I start? And how should it end? And yes, it seemed a lot easier when I was in grade school and had no expectations of what an essay should be.

Today, write an outline for a personal essay or start a folder on your desktop to put in all of your essay ideas. This week look for an essay contest that fits your writing style and add it to your writing calendar.
