A Privacy About It

There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you…In spring, summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself. Ruth Stout

This morning there is snow and even though I have to leave for work shortly I am enjoying the peacefulness of a snowy morning. Jameson and Ellie are curled up on the bed, the house is quiet except for the hum of the dishwasher. Yesterday I finished a poem that I started almost four years ago. When I picked it up again it just felt like the right time to work on it, maybe because it was on grief I needed to let a lot of time go by. Do you let writing sit for any period of time or do you work on one piece until it’s finished? I’m in the process of going through old schoolwork so I’m finding lots of in process poems, stories and journal entries. Reading the journal entries is the most fun…there are some things you think that you’ll never forget but rereading 2008 journal entries was enlightening. If you don’t regularly journal consider adding that to your writing practice you may be surprised how much it can add to your creative life.
I found this piece of writing by Siv Cedering this morning and I thought it summed up this morning.
WHEN IT IS SNOWING
the blue jay
is
the only piece of
sky
in my
back yard
Lovingly,
The Writing Nag
